Do you know a headline that includes the right keywords will help you show up in searches and will be a great help to show the value that you can bring to the table!

e.g. if a recruiter type “Energy Project Manager” in the search bar, LinkedIn is going to show profiles of people who have the words “Project Manager” and “Energy” (along with other criteria) in their profile.

This means if you have these main keywords “Project Manager” and “energy” in your LinkedIn headline you will appear in their search

How To Choose the Right Keywords For Your LinkedIn Headline

Thanks to Austin Belcak who made all this easy for us by sharing this great way to find effective keywords

You need to start by finding Jobs You’re Interested In:

🔵 Go to LinkedIn’s Job Board www.linkedin.com/jobs/

🔵 Search a job title you would like for your current or next role [The Most Common Keywords]

🔵 Pick out the roles you are interested in (at least 20 jobs that match your target criteria)

🔵 List them in a word document

🔵 Go to www.wordclouds.com

and paste your list of job titles,

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙤?

Word Clouds will generate which words appear most frequently across the job titles you chose.

How to do this?

🔵 Click on [Word List] and paste your list of job titles [steps are in the presentation below]

🔵 You will get the result in a diagram shape, click Ctrl+L to see a list of which words appear most frequently

🔵 Make sure the top 1-5 keywords are included in your profile. E.g. “Data” “project,” and “Manager”

Example 👇🏼:
Keywords: Project manager, Agile, Data, Strategist, Quality
Agile Data Project manager, Data Management Strategist, Data

Quality Specialist| Driving Data Quality Programs saving $45M

𝘈𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳, 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘘𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵| 𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘘𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 $45𝘔

LinkedIn gives you 120 characters for your headline, why you don’t use them smartly?

Here are the most famous 2 LinkedIn Headline Mistakes:

L̲i̲n̲k̲e̲d̲I̲n̲ ̲H̲e̲a̲d̲l̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲M̲i̲s̲t̲a̲k̲e̲ ̲1̲:̲

One of the most common headline mistakes is:

𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥/𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺

e.g. Sales manager at X company

Why it is not recommended:

🔴    It does not show your value or differentiate you from other job seekers/competitors

🔴    If you write Sales Manager and recruiters search for [sales managers], they will see more than 20 LinkedIn profiles with the same job title! So why do you think they will specifically pick you?

L̲i̲n̲k̲e̲d̲I̲n̲ ̲H̲e̲a̲d̲l̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲M̲i̲s̲t̲a̲k̲e̲ ̲2̲:̲

𝘞𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 “𝘑𝘰𝘣 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘦𝘳, 𝘜𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘥, 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘳 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘖𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴” will not help

LinkedIn offers an excellent feather [𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸]

So, why you are killing your visibility, in fact; you are wasting valuable space on keywords with no volume.

Why it is not recommended:

🔴   Recruiters or prospects are on LinkedIn platform to find people who are [Open to work], so you do not need to write it in your HEADLINE words like J̶o̶b̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶k̶e̶r̶

🔴 You can enable the Open To Work feature in your profile to let companies know you are actively seeking new opportunities

According to LinkedIn learning, members with an [OpenToWork photo frame are on average receiving 40% more InMails from recruiters

You need to define your goal before writing your headline (a job seeker Or you need it for sales)

🟢The best LinkedIn headlines include most of the following:

👉🏼Your core skills or abilities
👉🏼One or more keywords for the job you either have or want
👉🏼Your current job title
👉🏼What makes you valuable e.g. a qualification, an achievement
👉🏼Optional to add a future goal.
👉🏼Optional to add years of experience you have

Example
Marketing manager ►SaaS Apps ► Driving Company Growth from 15K to 60K Users in 9 months ergonomically

This is just an example of how to simply write a headline,

In my next posts, I will talk about how to find the right keywords for your profile with examples
